I'm in San Francisco (Mission district) and I agree with Kathy: nothing like the hills to kick your ass into shape. It's funny, every run is a "hill run" for me.
I'm doing the Kaiser Half and thinking about the Big Sur marathon. Have any of you done Big Sur? What can you tell me about the hill profile? I've heard a lot of people say it's tough in that regard, but they are out-of-towners and don't do regular hill training.
I try to do my long runs in or including ggp on saturdays. Any of you?

I'm in San Francisco (kind of near Dolores Park), and just started running at the beginning of December.
I have so little time to exercise, I felt running would be the most efficient way to get the most out of my time. I have several friends who love it, so I'm taking their lead. I'm still trying to ease myself into running... my body doesn't like me very much yet.
Ultimately I want to do the Disney World half marathon in January, 2010, but for right now I'd be happy doing a 5K by March.
Thanks for starting this group!

I'm moving to San Fran at the end of this month (Jan), from Vancouver Canada. Looking forward to less rain and a warmer winter for running. Signed up for the San Fran marathon and the Emerald across the Bay 12km. I took the last few months of 2008 off running, so a) I'm happy to be running again and b) I'm out of shape!

I lived in SF for the last three years, and I look forward to getting back in August. I spent this year in Texas for work, and, well, I've really, really missed SF. Anyway, I lived at Sacramento and Hyde, and I hope to get back to that area, if possible when I return. I thought about coming back for the Kaiser 5K, but it didn't work out. Anyway, I can't wait to get back!!

I live in Pleasant Hill and work in Berkeley, so I go for runs in both places. I'm a beginning runner and just made it to 12 minutes straight with no walk breaks. I can't wait to make it to 30 minutes! I'm training for my first 5k in San Ramon at the end of March.

I'm in Oakland and am running Ave of Giants half in May and SF marathon (my first!) in July. We just moved here from Nashville in August (although we have spent most of our time living in Portland OR before that). Happy to be back on the West Coast...even though these hills are killin me! :)

I live in the East Bay, in San Ramon. I am a transplant from Southern CA, Los Angeles 13 years ago. I love it up here and would NEVER move back to SoCal.
I love running, started 4 years ago and haven't stopped. I keep trying longer distances and pushing myself. My upcoming events this summer:

- Sprint Tri @ Shadow Cliff's in Pleasanton, CA on 6/20/09 (my first sprint Tri)
- Hike Halfdome on 7/18/09
- Wharf 2 Wharf 10k on 7/26/09I am looking for a full marathon to do in Oct-Nov '09 timeframe in the Bay Area........so I hope to complete my 2nd full M before year-end.
