iPod Touch While Running?

posted almost 3 years ago | Report

Has anyone actually tried using an iPod touch while running? I used to use a iPod Nano, but I lost it and am trying to figure out what to replace it with. I've wanted an iPod Touch for awhile now, but I can't justify getting it if it isn't useful for running (by far the most use I got out of my iPod Nano was while running).

If you have, is the Touch too big (as many claim, but none of those people seem to have actually tried it)? Did you use an armband? If so, which one?

Thanks very much.

  • My cousin just got one at the beginning of July. He ran with it in a 5k on the 4th with me. He had an armband and he said it didn't bother him. He was playing with a bunch of apps on it after the race. I personally have a Nano and don't like the armband. I clip it to my shorts. It's all personal preference. I've seen people running races with the old, full-sized iPods and the Touch is definitely slimmer and lighter than those.

  • I have both a Nano (1st gen) and a Touch (2nd gen). I just bought an armband for the touch because I've been running with it on the waist band pouch/clip I normally use. I like that I can easily calibrate my run after I end the work out on the Touch to improve it's accuracy. (FYI: calibrate AFTER the run, not before. If you choose "calibrate" and then run, it won't record the run)

I know veganrunningmom.com(she has a podcast and she's on here) uses an Iphone to listen to music while running. Those are a little bigger than an ipod touch. I'm personally going to upgrade from an ipod 2nd gen nano myself, for an ipod touch, and since I want to make this change for other reasons than biking, It's been decided.

I'll run for a bit with it and let you know. But thanks for the armband Idea! I normally stick my ipod in my pocket!

Of course it might be a little while yet, but i think veganrunningmom will get back to you fairly quickly. :3

  • I've been using my Ipod Touch for run/walking for the better part of 6 months. I have an armband for it and it's fine. I like especially since my eyes are starting to act funny. (I'm 44)
