Hello,

I'm 57 and just started running about 8 weeks ago. When I started, I thought by now I would easily be able to run 3 miles. However, the 5K I signed up for is next Tuesday and I find at this point the farthest I can run is 2.5 miles before I get too tired to continue. Does anyone have any suggestions/advice/thoughts on what I could or should be doing to increase my distance. I lost 80 pounds at Weight Watcher's a couple years ago and running is my new personal challenge. I love the running but just can't seem to gain the endurance part of it. Why??? Thanks!

  • When i started i could not run two telephone poles!!! Try the "couch to 5K" podcasts by Robert Ullrey. You can download them to an MP3 player or IPOD. It is supposed to take 9 weeks---took me about 4 months but i can now run 5 miles at a time and i have signed up for a 10K next week. It was definately worth the time and effort it took to get here! (BTW, i have lost 62 pounds with sparkpeople.com and running.

    Congrats! and good luck!

  • Did you do the 5K? How did it go... 2.5 miles after 8 weeks is very good IMO. It took me much longer to get to 2.5 and it's still a challenge for me after several months
