Somebody say something!?! Speed work

posted over 3 years ago | Report

If you don't, or haven't used a track for speed work in the St. Louis area, do you have any recommendations on where I can go? I generally use my Garmin for pace and distance tracking, but am looking for relatively flat areas and trails with longer, uninterrupted sections (by road crossings, etc.).

The best I've come up with so far is around the Basin and lakes in Forest Park. It's a relatively flat mile and a half (ish) loop. Any other ideas?

  • Hi,

I like Creve Couer Park. (Can't remember how to spell that, so you're just going to have to go with me on that one) But, it's flat and a solid four miles around. If you need a long run, you can run out this other path and wind up on the Katy Trail. Hope this helps!! Good luck.

  • I use the brand new high school tracks in St Charles - there are a couple of them and the surfaces are awesome!

  • Out in West County, I have used the Parkway West track, it is open when there are no games.

In the city, you can find pretty flat sections near the center of Tower Grove Park by the Softball/Kickball fields. I have a nice half mile loop that I have used for speed work.
