Anyone thinking about the Chicago Marathon this year?

I'd love to do it, but it seems like a real stretch, in terms of my current ability. I think I'd have time to train hard over the summer, and I'd rather do a big marathon than the small local one. So - I'm thinking about it but haven't decided.

The date doesn't seem to be set yet, and no word on when registration happens.

Anybody else looking at Chicago?

    My DH really is opposed to me doing Chicago, however, I am planning on doing Milwaukee in 09! It's supposed to be a much smaller, really nice marathon. It's the same day as Chicago, as well. Registration is going to be in late January.

    I've run Chicago twice. Almost 25 years since living there, but it's still my hometown. Great thing about this big run is that it is a BIG RUN. If you're like me and depend on energy and support from the crowd, it's hard to beat. One million people cheering you on is indescribable.     In terms of being able to do it, you've got plenty of time between now and then, which is usually Sept or October. Also, I'd recommend joining an organized training club if it's your first ever. Barring that, some good online plans area available as well.

    Honestly The Chicago Marathon is something that I think about almost every day. Chicago is going to be my first. We have been spectators for the marathon for the last 5 years. Its an inspiring event, and the crowd support is amazing. Hope you "think" about it a little more seriously tony!

    Chicago was my first marathon, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. It was AMAZING. So many spectators and such a cool thing to experience. You will love it.

    Only thing is, registration fills up FAST. Keep that in mind if anyone hopes to run it.

    I'll be running it. I live in Chicago and it will be my first Marathon. I went from no running ability to running the Chicago Half Marathon last summer. I decided to push myself even further this summer by going for the full. I think I may try to train with the CARA group to help motivate me on my longer runs. Group support helps when I increase my distance. I bet there is a group near you that could help with training and motivation.

    I should hook up with my local running club - as the weather gets warmer I hope to start joining them for outdoor runs.
