Boston Marathon bound

My Boston Story

posted over 4 years ago | Report

I ran #106 which was in 2002... Qualified at what was then the Marathon for Peace here in Charlotte with a 2.59.11.

I negative split Boston, and ran 2.59.52 (talk about squeaking in under 3!) and is the last marathon I have run.

Now that I'm older I only need a 3.20, which I will take a crack at with the Thunder Road Marathon in December. My only decision then will be do I go to Boston in 2009, or 2010.

More important than qualifying is being in the "first wave" at the start. I *think* a 3.15 should safely get me in.

UPDATE: 3.15 schmifteen... I ended up clocking a 2.49... So first wave is not a worry. I'm going in 2010... Seeya there!

  • I'm planning on going in 2010, but I'll be nowhere near finish time, as a) I'm older than you, and b) I'm a girl. But (and it stuns me to type this) I'M GOING TO BOSTON!!!

  • The best corral IMHO is first corral 2nd wave - you get your own gun, lead vehicle etc. When they say go, you go - no waiting around. That's the corral I was assigned and it's the corral I think I'll start from this year too even though I'm sure I'll be in wave 1 this time around.

  • My Boston story starts in 2003, when I ran my first Marathon (Portland, Or) in 3:16. Not good enough, as I need a 3:10:59. Next up was Vancouver Marathon in the Spring of 2004. This time I was closer, but not close enough (missed it by 9 seconds, yes SECONDS). After a couple of years off from marathoning, I tackled the 2007 Philly Marathon and cracked the 3:10 mark (3:09:40). I MADE IT! I MADE IT TO BOSTON!!

I had the option of doing Boston '08 or '09. Our baby was due the day of the '08 marathon, so I wisely decided to put it off a year. Sooooo . . . . . .. . .

2009 Boston Bound. See you all there!

I was in the second corral, second start last year, and it was great! I would much rather run first corral second start than last corral first start.
