90 kilometers

posted over 1 year ago | Report

hi,

I'm training for 90K in september '11. Slowly increasing distances, running the third marathon this year in february and starting the 'real' training in april.
Advice and support is welcome, I will do my share.

The question: can anyone experienced tell me whether 5 months training after the febr. marathon is enough?

all the best (in miles and kilometers)

  • I'd say yes 5 months is enough. :>) If you can, I would do another couple 25-30 milers (40-50k) in the summer and get some more distance in. I am training for a 50 miler (80k) in feb and part of my training is a marathon in jan-- I think 26 miles about 5 weeks before the 50m will work out pretty well. I am just going for a 10 hour finish though and qualify for WSER, not to win or anything. I did a 50 k in sept which would be 5 months before my 50 miler and not much distance since because of time constraints-- I'm hoping the 50m is mostly mental, lol.

thanks, I will keep your advice in mind when I set up my schedule. And let's go for the mental part, then our bodies will forget ;-)

  • 5 months is definitely enough. I do think there is a big difference in running street marathons and trail ultra events. Do you know the course and it's ratings? Trails are tons of fun but more intense than street events. Which one are doing?

  • Thanks for your response.
I don't know the course exactly. I'll have to plan it myself, it's not an official but an emotional one - I'd love run once from my work to home. Most of it however is stone, concrete or asphalt.
Next step after this one will be a trail, on vikrams or barefeet.
    Have fun.
