in reply to what Kelly K. said:We have a beta API you can see the docs at http://www.dailymile.com/api - thanks!
So, I've looked over the API and am kind of confused. The one thing I'd want to add to any app I'd create, namely, post a workout with a route based on geodata recorded by the phone ala MyTracks doesn't appear to be able to be done.
There should be an API for manipulating routes, specifically the following operations:
Add a route with a POST to http://api.dailymile.com/routes with a gpx message body.
Read routes near a location with a GET to http://api.dailymile.com/routes/nearby/lat,lon.format
And then some way to associate a route to an entry.posted almost 2 years ago

in reply to what Travis T. said:What sort of functionality would other DailyMile users be looking for in an app?
Travis, if I could upload distance and time that would be great. Uploading the route as well would be icing on the cake and very cool, but not necessary. Thanks for taking an interest in this! I'd volunteer to assist, but my calendar is full for quite a few months.

I shifted to a far inferior app called cardiotrainer because they had an android app. I still check periodically for a dailymile android app because I prefer dailymile but there is no way I am going back to manually mapping routes. With a gps mobile the tracks can be recorded automatically.

SportyPal has it about right, App on my HTC Desire, I have a shortcut on the home screen and hit it when I jump on my bike, hit it again when I am off. Would love to do the same with Dailymile. I could with my Garmin but I dont carry it on my commute to work or my travels around London on my Brompton. The SP functionality is about right for the App, the DM web is better than SP... I guess i want the best of both worlds.

Runstar would be a great app to check out for Android. Maybe even just build in the ability to connect Runstar with Daily Mile. I've tweeted my desire to do this to the Runstar folks and they are up for considering it. I can't do much more than that :)

I already use Runstar - it totally rocks! The developer has mentioned something about adding integration with Dailymile, but we should still bug him! Tweet to @runstar and make the suggestion!

Hi Travis - I am not sure I have the skills to help (I have only made a few little demo apps and games) but I would certainly like to look over your code and see if there was a way I could help get an app out there. Would this be possible? Mat

Travis, if you open source the app I will look at it and see if I can help. I'm a decent coder but I haven't made a lot of android stuff (just some demo stuff like Mat). We definitely need to get an android app working!

To be clear, add a "push to dailymile" to MyTracks. (c:

I'd love an app-sadly I can't code. I've started using runkeeper to keep track and then coming over and adding the info, but it would be nice to be able to track it on the phone and have the phone upload it to daily mile like runkeeper does. I like the community here.

I would use the hell out of an Android app.
As for what I as a user would want - right now I'm using Skimble, which allows me to time my workouts. For example, as I get into the pool (well, realistically, as I put my bag in my locker) I hit a button on the phone to start timing. Then as I get out, I hit another button to stop timing and upload my workout (and the distance swum, manually added) to the server. Something like that would be excellent.

I'd love an andrid app as well. I don't have programming skills but i think any DM app made would be nicer (than facebook's app) if it had an option to check messages or conversations.
Itd also be smexy if there was a widget...
And because I am unable to contribute to this, I'd be willing to pay for it! :3

the MyTracks app is very thorough, including elevation changes, time with and without movement, etc. i would also second having their developers look into the DailyMile API in order to upload basic distance and time statistics.

I love the Run Free app. It's easy to use and works very well to send runs to Daily Mile. I have the app set to display in miles on my phone, but it posts the runs to Daily Mile in meters. While it certainly looks impressive to see that I ran 13,000 meters yesterday, I usually log back into Daily Mile to change it to miles. I don't want someone to misread it and think I am claiming to run 13,000 miles in a day! :-) Is this some setting I can change somewhere, or something you guys are still working out?

I've been using Dailymiler, too, and it's really great! One thing I'd like to see added is the ability to add a title for the workout/run you're going to post. I like to keep track of where I do my running, so it's a bit of a pain to have to log in and edit the workout later.

Hi,
I have been making an android app ( MyCycle - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.va.mycycle - available on the Android Market )for my cycling needs, for the past one month. I have come up now with an app which you can use to record the tracks, see a list of tracks, and post any of the tracks on DailyMile. The app takes care of the timing, distance, etc. You just need to fill the "title" and "how did it go?".Let me know if the app is useful. I would like to further improve the app, for which suggestions are needed.
Thanks, and have a great workout :)

Dedicated Android app? Hard to justify having to use My Tracks, then upload through a third party app when several other sites have seamless integration of app and website (Sports Track Live, Endomondo...). I'd be willing to pay for it.
