It's useful to know your pace while you run, know your heartrate while you run, see your current distance during the run, and more. Several Garmin watches are great: the 205, 305, 405, 210 and new 610 are all great. I've used the same 205 for years and have no plans to upgrade -- still great. A GPS watch is highly recommend.

I agree with Justin on this one. As well as the things that he stated, you can also get good elevation details. I love long trail runs throught the mountains, so posting those routes gives me and others a chance to find big challenges. I've got the 405

I have had Garmin 205 and it's great. Done several runs up to 1:40 and it has not gone down 1 battery bar yet. It's supposed to last up to 10 hours continuous use so it may not work for an ultra...
