Resources for finding volunteers?

asked over 3 years ago | Report

I'm still short around 20 volunteers for my race. Looking for better ways to get volunteers. What does everyone do to get volunteers for their race?

  • If you haven't tapped this resource already, local running clubs are often great places to find volunteers. If the club frequently sets up races, they may have access to a whole network of volunteers that regularly help out.

It also never hurts to ask your volunteers if they can bring friends!

  • I don't know if it's this way in every area or state, but high school students here are required to do community service hours as part of their graduation requirements. Maybe checking with the local high school would provide some eager volunteers?

  • What Leslie said holds true (at least in CA). I have been using Volunteer Match (http://www.volunteermatch.org) for years, and they have been great. Essentially you fill out a profile of what you need, types of people you are looking for, and those that want to volunteer, look through the listings for matches.

    It's free.

    Good Luck!

  • I own a bike shop and we have a bike team that rides for us. We require annual volunteer hours. We have a volunteer coordinator that sends e-mails out to the groups...anyway, my point is even though we are a bike shop we send volunteers to many of the local races. They will lead bike, assist at aid stations, help with marking the course, check in, sweep. You might try some of the local bike clubs, many of the folks are multi-sport athletes and are willing and anxious to help out.
