  • Find a store selling Japanese candy. More flavor and less sugar.

  • I've been making frozen fruit ice cream. Freeze two bananas, skin off. Place them in a food processor or powerful blender (cheap blenders aren't powerful enough). Add a small amount of water, just enough that the bananas will fully blend (less is better). Add in another fruit or two, such as strawberries, blackberries, apples, pineapple, or something else. If you want greens, adding in some spinach doesn't seem to alter the taste much either. Let it blend for several minutes. I find the longer I let it blend, the fluffier and creamier it becomes. It tastes like a good fruit sherbet if you do it right, but it's 100% fruit!

  • I've found that not having sweets around and having things like fruit and trail mix REALLY helps to set aside those cravings. It's awfully hard to stop the cravings if it's around--so take it out of the cupboards! :P

  • I make a bowl of fresh, mixed berries with nonfat plain yogurt everyday - top it with a few walnuts and cinnamon - very yummy! I have ice-cream in the freezer from about 6 months ago that never got touched :)

  • For me dried prunes or apricots work - are you trying to avoid calories or just maintain your blood sugar. If it's just for weight loss my wife and I found it was important to not deny ourselves - that just made us pig out at some point. A single Dove Bite (the small chocolate dipped ice cream bites) is a really satisfying treat that doesn't blow your diet.

  • +1 more for the dried plums (Prunes if you feel old!) they are so very tasty and super sweet.

Also remembering that sugar itself, is 16 cal a teaspoon, and is not always evil helps. Most of our problems with sugar itself is that it comes with a significant layer of fats... but hard sweet candy has few calories. It is however, bad for your teeth.

Also a fan of fruit in general.

I also made a rule years ago, that I would eat 5 servings of fruit or veg before I ate any junk food. There were days when I sat and ate like 5 servings of veg. After I was never hungry or interested enough to actually eat the sugary thing I wanted.
