Well, Luna bars have always been targeted just for women....but as for the change of the class name, thats disconcerting. Seriously, didnt they even consider that this name change would essentially ostracize some club members? Thats just wrong. Now, if ALL the class participants were women, no harm done...but in this case, I think that was inappropriate for them to do so, basically tellilng you that you are no longer welcome. Ugh.

What a funny situation! That is too bad on both counts. As a woman, I could probably eat/drink something marketed for men especially if I was dressed in some kind of athletic clothes and feel perfectly comfortable. ( I already drink beer and have eaten slim jims, so no worries.) But I can see why you'd feel self conscious about the Luna bar. I googled Luna Bar and found out they are made by Clif Bar - which is very manly of course. Also, in the FAQ the "can men eat them" question is asked re: Luna Protein and answered this way "Men, too, can enjoy LUNA Protein. There is nothing in LUNA Protein that is not good for men. However, LUNA Protein bars are specifically formulated to provide women with the nutrients they often lack." This is only for the Protein bars, the other products didn't have an FAQ section. If they fit into your meal plan in the way you want them to, enjoy. I bet it's just a marketing ploy. Besides, what man isn't made more attractive by having a couple of white chocolate macadamia nut treats in his lunch? You might never eat alone again.
I agree with the Nanette here that the gym made a mistake to bill the beach bikini class as they do! You pay the same membership, go if you want!

Haha, I always thought that was funny too. I think it's because they're lower calorie than PowerBars and Clif bars.
I agree - it's pretty offensive when stuff is explicitly tagged as female if it's lower intensity or calorie. I've always hated women's bikes for this reason - I don't need a sissy bar for my petticoats!

When I first started to search for a protein shake for after training runs I went to a running store. The only thing they sold in individual servings was by luna. Since I was just trying it for the first time I didn't want to buy in bulk. I got some strange looks for buying luna. Didn't notice until I got home it was "for women."

Yes. Luna bars are for women. You're supposed to eat Cliff bars.
dude- get with the program!
(i think the main difference is the size of the bar i.e. calories are less)

Honestly, it would only have been really weird had you shown up for the Beach Bikini Body class wearing a bikini.

I love Corey's answer:) I never knew Luna bars is for women honestly who cares if men eat Luna bars I don't see it a big deal.
As for the name change imagine if something geared for men went out of their way to discourage women, that would be a big issue.
I think I would have said something.

I've read some articles regarding soy products interfering with male hormone balances, especially if consumed in large quantities. I don't think it would hurt to eat some Luna Bars once in a while, buy I won't buy snack/protein bars with soy, soy milk, soy burgers, etc.
