Introduction - New to DM

posted about 2 years ago | Report

Hello everyone! I've been on Dailymile for a couple weeks and I figured I would finally introduce myself.

I'm a sophomore civil engineering major and Marine-option midshipman at Virginia Tech. I've been active in sports throughout all four years of high school (football and track), but only started to take running seriously during the spring of junior year when applying for the NROTC scholarship. Ever since, I've been running whenever I can in addition to morning PT. Time is my enemy here, but I make the most of my situation.

I also plan on running in the Marine Corps Marathon this October as well so any helpful training tips would greatly be appreciated. Another goal I have set for myself with regards to running is to break a 18:00 minute 3-mile by the end of this semester.

The community here seems wonderful from what I have seen and I hope I can contribute as well.

  • Chistopher,

Welcome to DM. I've been using the site for a little over a week and love it. I'm thirty-six, live in Kentucky, and have been running for about two years. You have a pretty ambitious goal for a three mile.

  • Welcome to DailyMile Christopher. I've been a member of the DM community since the end of 2008 and have received much support, advice and motivation from athletes around the country. I also love giving back to the community too, so feel free to add me as a friend and we can go from there.

I'm hoping to run MCM too (it will be my 3rd) and looking forward to the day when registration opens. Enjoy your time on DM and don't be afraid to find and add some folks who I am sure will help with your goals. Good luck!

  • Welcome to dailymile Christopher! Marine Corps Marathon was my first marathon, and it is an amazing race. You really can't beat running through our nations capital, and the crowd support was AMAZING!

  • Thanks everyone! It's hard trying to find free time nowadays, but spring break in less than a week!

I had a friend who ran last year's MCM and the best part about it was when he finished the marathon, he encountered some Marine lieutenants from TBS that were assisting during the race and several of the Marine officers just happened to be seniors at our Marine ROTC unit when we were freshmen less than a year ago. I cannot wait for this year's Marine Corps Marathon!
