A little bit of pixie dust in Minneapolis

posted 10 months ago | Report

Hi all -

I've run on and off for years, but something seemed to always interrupt. Back at it and feel like this time it's real.

My oldest brother and sister are marathoners, and other family members run. But I'd love some online running friends for support, coaching, motivation, cheering, boosting, propping up, celebrating, and visa versa back atcha.

I went on my very first run with my dad. My dad started running at age 45 because HIS dad had had his first heart attack at 46 and my dad didn't want to go down that same path. Well, the running worked for my dad's heart. So well that he's now 84 and physically extremely healthy. But was just diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer's. He was still run/walking up until last year. Now he just walks on the treadmill, almost every day.

I turned 45 this year and started back running. My dad can't run anymore. I'm running for both of us.

I'm training for my first 10k on Sept. 1. It's my dream to someday run the Disney Princess Half Marathon at Disney World and the Tinkerbell Half Marathon and Disneyland!

After all, as my homey Peter Pan tells me: "All you need is faith, and trust, and a little bit of pixie dust!"

  • Hi Molly...I'm a new runner (training since February) and am scheduled to run my first 10K in September (the 30th). I just turned 50 this year....wanted to set some new goals and prove age is just a number:) kudos to you on your new running journey....great goal to work towards..... and love that your dad was able to stay active. My dad is 80 this year and avid cyclist....

  • "I'm running for both of us"

That's awesome, Molly. When you have a great reason to run like that it makes it so much more fulfilling. Good luck to you and I am sending you a FR!

  • Cool story. Running for health is the best reason. I work in Minneapolis and am lucky enough to be able to run the paths along the Mississippi during lunch.

Hoping your dad has many more quality years. Good luck with your running and I'll send a friend request.

  • I'm pretty new to running. I started training less than a year ago, and my first ever race was the Neverland 5K at last year's Tinkerbell Half Marathon. THIS time around I'm doing the half!!

  • Hi Molly. I turn 47 this year and I just did my first ever half marathon in October 2012. Run for your Dad. I am registered for the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February 2013. Can't wait I hear it is really awesome. I am going to run with my daughter. I just sent you a friend request.
