Noob from the Midwest

posted 10 months ago | Report

I've been new to DM for about 10 days (it only looks longer) and I'm hoping to connect with people who share my enthusiasm for running :)

Basically, up until about 3-4 months ago, I was a "dormant runner." I ran in high school and then, inconstantly, since. I got lazy and couldn't stick to a routine. But my sister and I randomly decided to run our third ever half marathon in the spring. And I decided my goal would be to PR. So, I started training really hard, I accomplished my goal, and a month later I'm still running! I feel like I found my... I don't know what the word is, but I found it! I think I'm finally ready for commitment :) I'm even considering the possibility of doing a full marathon next spring!

Oh, and I 'productively spent' an hour of my time reposting all of my workouts (from another site) to my profile because I'm positively obsessed with the training statistics on this site!

  • Sounds almost like my story. Ran (not on track) high school into military, went dormant for the most part (occassionally ran a few miles), then got back into it last year. Ran my first half this spring, working on current goal of a full.
Welcome to DM from another newb from the Southwest.

  • I also was a runner in high school and started in middle school, and not until recent months have I finally been running consistently. Good luck with your marathon training! It's the most exciting event you'll ever participate in regardless of finish time. Looking forward to seeing your progress :).

  • Hi and welcome to DM. I agree about training stats, then again its the way we gauge our running. Plus isn't it a rush when there is one of those triangles above the day's run meaning you've set some sort of new record-distance, speed etc.?

  • Glad I'm not the only one who's stat crazy! I used to use RunKeeper and have switched to Nike+ which syncs here, but I'm kind of bummed out that most of my runs are stored somewhere else!
