Hello,

I am new to this site and to running as an adult really. Just want to say hi and good luck to everyone:) I am a student finishing a Master's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. A friend and I recently decided to challenge ourselves to participate in a 5K fundraising run this coming June, which is how I learned about this site. With little running experience, a 5K seems like a reasonable challenge for now, and so I am currently working up to that. Anyway, would of course be nice to hear from anyone and/or any advice:)

Take care,
Tamara

  • Welcome! A 5K is a great way to start. You'll be fine and I'm sure you'll do great! Just make sure to build up your base mileage slowly and carefully.

  • Hi Tamara,
Welcome to DM. Good running shoes and socks are important. Do you have a running plan? They help a lot in building up your running capabilities and give you something to look forward to. Most of the plans out there also mention form when you run.
Hope you get to your goal and have fun doing it. Might catch the bug that seems to be inherent to those who sart running.
    :+)

Thank you for your response and suggestions. I definitely do plan to update my old sneakers. I also think I'm going to join my friend with a "Couch to 5K" running plan she has started, which sounds pretty manageable. I think the structure is probably very beneficial for anyone just starting out. It is very exciting to see so many motivated individuals of all running levels here. Thanks again:)

Thanks. Right, I think I'm going to try to ensure that by joining my friend with a 5K running plan she has already started.

Thanks:) I just visited Scotland this past summer. The landscapes were beautiful and everyone was so friendly. It must be awesome and extremely motivating being able to run there all the time. Suppose it depends some on what area you're from too though.
