Welcome! A 5K is a great way to start. You'll be fine and I'm sure you'll do great! Just make sure to build up your base mileage slowly and carefully.

Hi Tamara,
Welcome to DM. Good running shoes and socks are important. Do you have a running plan? They help a lot in building up your running capabilities and give you something to look forward to. Most of the plans out there also mention form when you run.
Hope you get to your goal and have fun doing it. Might catch the bug that seems to be inherent to those who sart running.

Thank you for your response and suggestions. I definitely do plan to update my old sneakers. I also think I'm going to join my friend with a "Couch to 5K" running plan she has started, which sounds pretty manageable. I think the structure is probably very beneficial for anyone just starting out. It is very exciting to see so many motivated individuals of all running levels here. Thanks again:)

Thanks. Right, I think I'm going to try to ensure that by joining my friend with a 5K running plan she has already started.

Thanks:) I just visited Scotland this past summer. The landscapes were beautiful and everyone was so friendly. It must be awesome and extremely motivating being able to run there all the time. Suppose it depends some on what area you're from too though.

Hi Tamara, welcome to DM - you'll find great people/support/motivation here. In much the same boat as you and trying to regain running feet I haven't used in years. Good luck with it. FR sent.
