I use the Timex Ironman GPS and it seems to work really well. It's a little more bulky than the new Garmins, but I like it.

I'd b e hesitant of any foot pod device - difference in stride length seems like it would be a major contributor to error.
I have (as do a lot of people) have a forerunner 305 because it is effective and reasonably priced.

Go to www.dcrainmaker.com . It's an awesome website that has all the ins and outs about most gps watches out there.

Love Garmins, have 2 have over 20 members of clubs who use the 305 / 310 and cant recall any issues. I know the 405 was a dog because of the bezel control with wet sweaty hands but 305/310 are great watches.

The Garmin 305 is creeping up a bit in price because it's out of production and is in the $180 to $210 range now, so you might want to look at other models as well since they're in the same range. The Garmin 210 fits the needs of most runners and can be worn as a normal watch for $200 or so.

I got a Soleus for Xmas. Way cheaper than the garmin. ($95 at academy). I like it so far. No computer connection for mapping, but I can view all teh data thru the watch. Works great for me.

I had been running with nothing to track my time or distance for most of my running life. Just recently last year i bought the garmin 405..its pretty accurate..and actually helped me get a personal record on a half marathon. Hope this helps a little with your decision. http://runningtipsforbeginners.com

Garmin 305 all the way. It's the Volvo of GPS watches: ugly but good!

I got the garmin 405cx for Christmas and have been happy so far. The bezel issues that I read about haven't been a problem for me. It is probably more watch than I need right now, but I am slowly learning it's little tricks. When I run, I just start the time then lock the bezel so I don't bump it by accident while running. The time can be stopped while the bezel is locked, but you have to push the button in so it isn't something that you can easily do by accident. A couple of things bug me about it, but I think it is user error more than anything else. I also recommend www.dcrainmaker.com
I asked my husband for the 305 or the 405 and with Christmas sales and all, I think they were close to the same price. I was never able to find the 305 as cheap as others talked about.
Good Luck!

I have the Garmin 210 with footpod. Like Nike, it reverts to the pod if signal is lost. Love the watch.

have you looked at the nike forums for help with the new watch? my 1st one worked very well for 15-18 times, then stopped connecting. traded it in at the store for a replacement, (which happened to also be someone else's returned watch), so i contacted nike again & they advanced replaced a 3rd sportwatch for me & it has worked well. this past wednesday feb 1st, they revamped the nike website & now it connects faster, with no hesitation. if i am on roads, trails, train tracks, etc, it is very accurate. if i'm on a treadmill i lose about .07 every mile. nike said over time the watch will calibrate itself if you use it with both satellite & foot pod in use. after awhile i need to get back on a treadmill & see if it has gotten any better. as for out on the roads, it's very accurate!

I use the Garmin 305 and love it. It is a little larger than most but I can get 6-7 hours on a charge. I tried the Nike sport watch and wasn't crazy about it.

I have the Garmin 210 and love it. It doesn't have many features and therefore makes it pretty simple to use. I've had mine for about 6 months now and wonder how I ever ran all these years without one!

I have the Garmin 305 and I love it. I run in all conditions, and it holds up very well. My only gripe is that it occasionally takes longer than it should to "locate satellites" when I initially turn it on. I am yet to lose satellite while running. I believe the 405 has a touch screen which can be overly sensitive. I don't think the 405 gets very good reviews either.

I have the Garmin 305, love it. The only little tip is that it will find signal much faster if you turn it on and leave it on a window sill or other flat surface for about a minute. It seems to take ages to find the signal if you are walking around with it.

I have the Garmin 210 and, like everyone else, LOVE it and can't imagine how I ran without one before! I do 95% of my training alone and I love having my Garmin as a side kick. Keeps me on track and chirps every mile. I've had mine since the summer and went to the store thinking I would get the 410 or 610 but both were too big for my wrist. (I hear they make ones specifically for women though, but at the time I had only seen this ugly grey and pink one) I'm very very happy with the 210 as I didn't need any of the fancy features of the other two. Was a little scared when the sales person said that they improve the GPS with each upgrade, fearing that the little 210 wouldn't be good enough, but I haven't had any troubles. I've used it in the city and in the boonies and was always able to get a good connection and accurate mile readings.
