Sciatica! :(

posted almost 2 years ago | Report

Well, you know what they say "da nile ain't just a river in Egypt" I never thought I'd have true sciatica! It started a while ago I think, I was consistently doing 25 to 40 miles of trail running week but later in the spring would trip or stub my toe, always the right side and the end of May messed it up pretty bad.

So after starting clinicals and not being able to run for a while, I was getting, what felt like the worst hamstring cramps of my life without the muscle contraction and got to the point where I ended up in the ER........twice!! The second time was after an acupuncture tx. that ended up activating everything, WOW the agony the next three days I couldn't stand for more than 10 to 15 seconds........food and bathroom were difficult, to say the least. :(

So, MRI showed L5 S1 marked disc protrusion to right central lateral pinching S1, everything else was really good, which was a relief. Had my second epidural today and I have some improvement but I'm really anxious to start PT soon and start feeling normal again. I've been mostly bed ridden for 4 weeks now and off the hard core drugs for the last 2 (oxicotin is the devil!) but the epidural is crazy on me, no sleep, achnie, rages, head aches it sucks!

  • Sorry, was a little long and cut off my "point" of my ramblings!

Anyone with back pain, don't ignore it like I did for the last 20 years, I thought I could manage it, but it creeped up and knocked me out!

Get massages, chiropractic, and anything to keep active and healty.

  • Wow that seems like a crazyyyyy injury. I read this because I've been fighting some back issues (I think) for the past 6 weeks but I'm not sure how severe it is.

It is right above my tailbone but off to the left. I'm not sure if it is truly back related (discs, etc,) or just a muscle. I have been able to keep training (carefully), but during speed work, after it felt great for the past 3 days, I re-injured it when I stretched into my sprints and lengthened my stride.

    Good luck with your recovery!!
