Stone Bruise - HELP!!

asked 7 months ago | Report

I've been dealing with what I think is this issue for about two months now... Initially, I thought my worn out (midfoot) pair of Asics was the issue, but even after a week of rest and new shoes, after about 2-3 miles my right foot really bothers me.

Whose has dealt with this and what can you suggest to help make it better? I don't really want to go down the orthotics route either. I'm not a heel striker at all, and in fact, the Asics I wore out, were most worn on the area that hurts the most....

Help!

  • I had a similar issue in my Left foot. I had pain the ball of my foot, it came on slowly and it aches and hurts worse after a long run. I don't have a complete solution but i have gotten significant relief by soaking my foot in ice water and warm water, I set up 2 plastic tubs and soak my foot for 30 seconds in ice water, 30 seconds in warm water...back and forth for about 5 minutes. I have to do this daily. If I skip it for a couple of days, it bothers me again.

I went to a podiatrist to rule out a stress fracture. He wanted me to get orthotics, I am not too excited to spend $300-$400 on something that may not work. Good Luck!

  • Hopefully it's not a Neuroma. Check out the two threads at the bottom that Laura and I recently posted. If it is a neuroma, between the ice/warm water baths, taping the toes or the foam toe separators, getting shoes with a bigger toe box and learning how to tie the shoes while only tightening around the ankle (video on runner'sworld.com)you should find some relief.

Of course, a Dr. appt should be made. I just had my x-ray come back negative for a stress fracture. Next up is the podiatrist appt on Tues.

    Best of luck. Go Steelers.
