  • I am not a medical expert, but the only time I ever pull muscles is during sudden movements (i.e. Kicking a soccer ball). I never get leg cramps (knock on wood) or get "sore" during a run. So let me see if I can take a stabat why. I am not particularly flexible. In fact I don't stretch much. I definitely never stretch without warming up first and will skip stretching alltogether until after my run if pressed for time. I do ALWAYS stretch after. I am not particularly fast on long distances (9:00+ pace) but my mile PR is 6:50 so I wouldn't say I am slow. I am small framed (6'1" 160lb) and try to run "efficiently". I'm also a midfoot striker but can still overstride sometimes. I used to heel strike though and way overstride and that never caused problems either. My guess is I never push myself TOO hard. If my body is screaming I back off.
