5AM Barrier

posted 11 months ago | Report

What is the earliest time you'll get up to workout? 5AM has been my limit. I've tried getting up earlier, but my attempts usually fail.

  • waking up early has been a struggle for me this year but 5am used to be my wake up time. but meant going to bed pretty dang early. I find having training partners waiting for me (with cellphones in case I oversleep) are usually a good motivator to get out of my nice warm bed

  • I used to try and get out by 5:30 many years ago (did that for about a year). Now, the earliest I've been out there is 6:00 am (and only to avoid the heat). I'm too much of a night owl to break the 5:00 am barrier!

  • My earliest time to wake now is 4:30am for my mid-week longish run. It's 5 or 6am every other day of the week (including weekends). The weekend time may be later once the weather cools down, but not before.

  • I've up as early as 4:30 to be out exercising by 5am. I prefer running in the AM!!

  • I woke up at 3:30 am on Christmas eve to do the last long run (20 miles) of my marathon training before flying back to Ohio. There was NO way I was going to run 20 miles in a Cleveland winter when I'm used to living/running in the south! I had to get it done... and I did. I flew back with ice packs on both knees!

On a regular basis, 5:30 is my earliest acceptable wake-up call. :)

  • 4 AM for me. I like riding and running much more during the day. Less cars to try and hit me while I'm on the bike!

  • If I sleep before working out, it is about 6 am for me. However, I have on numerous occassions gone for a run at 1am.

  • I usually set my alarm for 5AM but sometime on the weekend or for a race I will get up as early as 4AM. Last weekend I started my long run at 4:45.

  • 5am is my limit at the moment too. But may have to get up earlier to get some of the longer mid week runs in.

  • My alarm went off at 3:45 am this morning :)

  • Most days I get up at 4:30 AM to run. I prefer running in the morning, plus than my unpredictable work schedule does not interrupt my run. The extra 1/2 hour of sleep never feels as good as the run.

  • I get up at 3:00 AM most mornings and eat breakfast. Then depending on the workout I have planned I am out the door by 3:45 or 4:00 AM. On Saturdays I wake up about an hour later.
