Can anyone recommend a comfy saddle?

asked about 2 years ago | Report

I know that this one is based on personal preference but I need to know where to start. I've tested an ISM Adamo (too wide and really painful) and the Terry Butterfly (which I liked okay and may have to just get used too). Are there any better ones out there? How about triathlon specific ones? So far by about 50 miles I want to cry. Maybe I just need to get tougher. :) But I'd love advice if anyone wants to volunteer some, Thanks!

  • You might have better luck on other forums.
    I recommend www.roadbikereview.com and www.bikeforums.net
The cycling community on those are more active
so you will get more thoughtful feedback.
    YMMV

  • Go to a good shop and try a few! A good shop will let you take one for a day or two and give you credit towards another. If they don't they're not a good shop! Fizik has a demo plan and so does Terry. There is absolutely no way to tell a person what saddle they should use! I've worked for a few Pro teams, one was a women's team and some women used a men's saddle others used a typical women's saddle and everything in between. It's also one of the few bike components that the sponsor makes the riders use, along with shoes, it's their choice.

  • The ones that worked for me so far have been the Terry Butterfly and the Specialized Jett. The specialized was great because it's narrow in the front so reduced a terrible chafe I was getting. Also, it's a good one to try because you get measured for it which is a cool experience: you sit on a gel pad for a minute and when you get up they look to see where your sits bones left an imprint. Based on that they tell you what size you need. Interesting to do even if you don't end up liking the Jett- gives a little new perspective on saddles.
