I wear a closed patella knee sleeve and it works great. I've had bursitis for a few years now so I wear it whenever I run or work out. My bursitis is finally going away I think.

I just did a search for scientific research on these braces and it seems the results are inconclusive. From what I found there is no significant difference in patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) with the use of these braces. Granted I didn't look at every article available on the subject, but I did review some current research implementing these braces during an active rehab program. I did see some research the showed significant decreases is speed using ankle braces but nothing involving the knee braces. Overall, if you find that your knee feels better with it, go for it. The research is inconclusive so until significant differences are found its really up in the air if they work or not.

About 3 months ago I started getting a terrible pain starting behind my knee and ending up on the right side of my kneecap. It was really bad starting at mile 5. I did research and determined it was runners knee. I looked online and bought a patella tendon strap that fits just below my right kneecap for about 20 dollars. I was really suprised that it worked great. Now I can run 10+ miles with no pain at all. It really worked for me!

They can help while you work on the initial causes to keep things in line..but ultimately my PT said you want to correct the other weakness issues that lead to the issue and wean off of them (same as taping). Before I ended up in PT I bought all the straps used them all in halfs ect. and could run ect.but I did not early on correct those weakness and bad form issue (heel strike) so eventually bads quit working. I am now back to running and it is on/off with the pain and it does have alot to do with form. But everyone is a little different.

OK, so maybe they can help, bc I AM doing exercises to strengthen quads/inner quads. Jennifer, care to share the brand/type you used? Thanks all!
