Newbie needs Nike Free advice

posted 10 months ago | Report

Hi! I'm new to running and need some advice on what Nike Free running shoes are the best?? I am so confused! 3.0 4.0?? Also I am doing the C25k running program and can take all the help and advice on running I can get!! Thanks!!!

  • I think they are awesome shoes. I have 4 pairs. I'm afraid they will stop making them. To me they feel like moccasins with flexible forgiving soles that cushion just right. I've put on 750 miles since spring wearing nothing but. If the house started on fire I would grab them.

  • I am a big fan of the Free as well. The lower number indicates less cushion. 3.0 has very little cushion and no motion control with a little arch support. The 5.0 has a lot more cusion and a little arch support, but no motion control. I have never used the 4.0, but they look more like a cross trainer to me. This year, the 5.0 added a tongue, which I do not like, so if you want the booty upper fit, the 3.0 is the way to go unless you can find last years upper model on the 5.0. Some people will say you cannot run long distance in these shoes, so be careful using them if you are used to a lot of foot support. That said, I used them for my last marathon in April and had no problems.

  • Thank you both so much!!! I went to Finish Line today and bought Nike Free 5.0s. While my heart was set on the 4.0s the store associate (who is an avid runner and also was wearing 4.0s) insisted that I try the 5.0s too and boy I am glad he did...I find the arch support better for my foot! I haven't ran in them yet but I plan to on Monday and I can't wait!! I also bought the sensor chip for the sole of the shoe so it records my steps and distance...I hope it works!
