Running and Meditation

posted about 2 years ago | Report

I read an article last week on combining running and meditation. Looking for any DM'rs who have tried this and could share their experiences and/or any resource where I could find more information. Thanks in advance.

  • Not into it myself but check out Chi running that has close links with Tai Chi & meditation

  • I'm interested in looking into this, too. I often use Buddhist mantras, like ones from Thich Nhat Hahn when I'm running, "Breathing in, I calm myself; breathing out, I smile," etc... I would love to get more info on this, too.

I tend to think of my running as a meditation. I live in a rural town, and I try to appreciate nature when I'm running. I have lots of runs where the only other beings I see are deer, pelicans, horses, cattle, etc. So I don't really understand the runners who run with music, earbuds, etc.

Thanks for bringing this up! I look forward to more responses!

  • @ Shaindel,

I've always listened to music when I run but I seem to be more in tune (no pun intended) to my mind and body when the music is not a distraction, either jazz (without lyrics) or softer music. I think I'm going to take your cue and leave my head phones at home on my next run to see if I can achieve a more meditative state.

You may want to check out the following web pages that I found in my limited research on the subject:
