I need race advice...

asked almost 2 years ago | Report

I am recovering from high hamstring tendonopathy which has been nagging me for about 7 months. I had my first PRP injection about a month ago with good results, probably the most significant improvement out of all the therapies I have used. Thanks to PRP I am back running but only on flat surfaces at a slow pace and for short distances. My longest run in the last month has been 3 miles. The problem is that I have been scheduled to run a marathon on March 21st, which I already downgraded to a half marathon due to the injury. Now that the race is imminent and it is clear that I will be in no condition to run the entire race I need to decided what course of action I should take; do I run/walk the course and risk potentially aggravating the hamstring, or should I just drop out of the race all together? This race was important to me since it is the day before my 45th birthday and it was intended to be a sort of celebration to myself. What would you all recommend?

  • Better to race another day, I would say.

  • Probably should not run or walk that far. You would probably regret it. If they have a 5k you could do that at an easy pace.
