I'm a fan of EAS in vanilla when I have protein shakes. I'm not doing any shakes right now though.

After run: carbs. To restore glycogen in your muscles. The easiest way to get them: fruits, natural juices, cereal bars... When it comes to high quality natural protein: eggs, poultry and soya :) As a nutritionist I'm not a big fan of artificial shakes, besides I don't know what is available on your market... Hope I could help. Greetings :)

Milk! Cheaper just as good or better than those protein powders.

I like EAS too, but chocolate. It's in expensive, has 5 grams of BCAAs. Milk is not just as good. It's good. but if you're putting in a lot of work, you're gonna want more protein. The sugar is good after a workout, but what If you just want a craving killer? let's say you wanna take 20 grams of protein post workout. that's about 20 ounces of milk. 30 grams? now we're talking about 4 plus glasses of milk. why not just add a 20 gram protein scoop into 8 ounces of milk, get nearly 30 grams, plus some sugar. My favorite post workout is about 25 grams whey protein, with a banana. Just bear in mind that protein supplements are supplements. The majority of your protein, as with all nutrition should come from the food you eat.

I'd say eggwhites, yogurt or I eat a turkey sandwich for the protein after running on whole grain/wheat breat. Best beverage I use is water, water & more water

Greens as in leafy greens, broccoli and such. Easy to assimilate and your body doesn't have to break the protein down into digestible amino acids; doesn't cause mucus issues such as dairy does... can make salads, smoothies, etc. Make your own almond milk with raw almonds, put in a heavy-duty blender; add fresh or frozen fruit, then top with greens. Blend thoroughly. If you're not used to doing this, don't overdo the greens at first. Enjoy!

My fav post run food/drink is a smoothie. I make mine with vanilla yogurt, frozen berries, and a spash of fruit juice (maybe a bit of honey if the berries are tart). Gets in carbs, protein, and goes down easy, even when I can't stomach "real" food.

Vega One is what I use 75%. I do it in a smoothie after runs and workouts (try to get it within 30 minutes). Compared to others it beats them nutritionally on many levels. Another benefit is it is dairy free (I don't have much good to say about dairy - much healthier without it) and contains some of the 'superfood' ingredients. If you watch for discounts and deals, can find it online (I don't tend to pay shipping on much of anything) for about half of the $75 list price. My alternate is on the line of Revvell's answer in the replies on this question...infinite possibilities.

Usually people are looking for a glycogen repletion with high glycemic carb but protein is important. Things like clif bars can work for fast-forward people who want some protein during day.

I'm sure everyone will disagree with me, but my feeling is that unless you're doing elite level multiple daily workouts it doesn't make a whole lot of difference. For me, less than 90 minutes I don't worry about it, just eat or drink whatever. 4+ hour workouts in heat usually leave me pretty wasted and I go for food easy to swallow - hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese, avocados, promised land chocolate milk (about 1000 calories / bottle), smoothies.

I like Endurox for a recovery shake. Chocolate milk is just as good, but I have some lactose issues.

How Mike's Mix Works
Mike's Mix works by quickly and efficiently replenishing your body's glycogen. Glycogen is your body’s way of storing carbohydrates needed for fuel during athletic activity. The more glycogen you store the greater your performance potential. After exercise your muscles are severely glycogen deprived and if you fail to restore it, subsequent workouts will suffer. What's more, only a short window of time exists post-workout to replenish glycogen effectively. The solution: take Mike's Mix immediately after all your workouts and keep glycogen levels high and your workouts fresh.
Mike's Mix, The Clear Choice
Mike's Mix, formulated on research and not fads or trends, contains optimal ratios of quickly digestible carbohydrates and protein.answered 9 months ago |Report

I have found that triathletes seem to have nutrition down to a science So I have gone to triathlon stores and used hammer nutrition products, they have a great recovery drink. Recently I've been using Endurox R4, the taste is ok but my recovery has improved incredibly. Not for everyday use though, just after long runs.
If you its just protein you want, Met-Rx has been around for a long time and always have been on the cutting edge of muscle/strength training. But do your self a favor; do not go cheep and get generic Walmart type protein, I would not even buy GNC brand protein.answered 7 months ago |Report
