What kind of workouts should I do in the weeks before my actual half marathon training begins?

asked 4 months ago | Report

My official half marathon training begins on March 5th. I need suggestions as to what types of workouts I should be doing now in the weeks leading up to this date. I want to be prepared for the training but I also don't want to overdo it. Any suggestions??

  • What are you currently doing? Are you already running 3-4 miles three to four times a week and then your training schedule begins from there???

  • Hi Meaghan, I would slowly build up my base mileage. Dont build up mileage too quickly just add 1 mile per week. I would not worry about speed at this point so keep you runs as slow as possible. Once you build up your bas mileage then you can work on speed.

  • adding on to Eric's comments - add the mile to your long run on the weekend. that is going to be the area that will be your biggest hurdle. just cover the distance don't worry about speed

  • you should start building a base for sure. If you jump straight into a 1/2 training program you will set yourself up for an overuse injury
