glucosamine and chondroitin

posted almost 2 years ago | Report

I wrote recently about my back injury. Word has it I could benefit in my recovery and in my general health with glucosamine and chondroitin supplements (in addition to regular nutrition standards, vitamins, etc.). I am a distance runner and currently have no issues with knees or hips but understand that may come later in life. Any comments on these supplements?

  • I take Glucosamine & Chondroitin everyday... I can't say if it will help you... I can say that I have not suffered from any significant issues with my knees that haven't cleared up quickly. However, I do have an issue with an old injury in one of my feet and it doesn't seem to help with that. So, my experience is something of a mixed bag but nothing like a clinical study saying it works or doesn't.

  • I have taken Glucosamine & Chondroitin and have found it to help me with knees and hips. Not everyone I've talked to about it agrees that it helps. Perhaps they didn't take it long enough, the correct dosage or whatever. I believe it to work on a person-to-person basis. We all have our unique biologic makeup. Some respond, some don't.

  • My physician highly recommends daily dosage of Glucosamine and Chondroiton, and he's not one to recommend something unless he believes it truly helps.

  • A few months ago I developed iliotibial band syndrome "runners knee" which extends from your hip down through the band in your leg and knee. I had never experienced an injury before that and it was painful! I started taking Glucosamine, MSM and Chondroiton in addition to an aspirin regimen (to help with inflammation) for 14 days. The G, MSM and C really helped with the healing process. I am back to normal now and have been for months. I currently take G, MSM and C regularly to promote joint mobility and flexibility.
As some of the other responses have said...it works differently for everyone. The number one thing to remember is that like everything else, you have to be patient. I take TriFlex daily. It's GNC brand. I have zero complaints and nothing but praises.

If you are interested you could always give it a try.
