Do you own a bathroom scale? If so, which one?

posted about 1 year ago | Report

Hi, All,

I don't currently own a bathroom scale for a few reasons. First, because I'm a former dancer (as in, it was my major in college) who had a history of eating disorders, and it's recommended not to own a scale so you don't obsess over your weight.

That was a LONG time ago, and I'm 35 now, and think I'm "okay" to own a scale. So, three questions:

(1) Do you own a bathroom scale?
(2) Is it a regular scale or a "body fat percentage" scale?
(3) What scale would you recommend? (If you have a fancy-schmancy "body fat percentage" scale)

Thanks!

  • I have a Tanita. It does body fat, had the ability to remember/monitor more then one user. It's an older one, so I'm sure the newer Tanitas can do all sorts of fun, new techie things. I've had it a long time and never had any problem with it... I'd recommend a Tanita!!

  • I do have a bathroom scale and it is a regular one. I use it more to weigh myself before and after runs to determine how much water I lost during my runs.

  • I'm not sure, but I'll tell you what. Do NOT! Believe it when someone tells you there is a good iPhone app for that. Krunch! :)

  • 1. yes
    2. regular
    3. any. one that you can read. I don't believe there is some magic scale out there. they're all pretty good. Get one that looks good in your bathroom. The glass one's with a big digital readout look good..

As I haven't changed weight in 30 years, I pretty much use it to see how dehydrated I am. Sometimes I'll try to drop 2 lbs before my A races.

  • 1) I own a scale
    2) It does body fat and accepts 3 users
    3) Personally, I'd get something that looks decent, has a big readout, and doesn't use a spring (they stretch over time and don't maintain accuracy). The wife bought the fancy one we have, but all I care about is the lbs. Even then, I only weight myself every few days since my weight seems to fluctuate much more than most people day to day. The last 3 times I stepped on I weighed (in order): 193.0, 197.6, 193.6 - all in one week.
