  • General rule of thumb is symptoms above the neck = run, but slower. Symptoms below the neck = rest. Remember that you have your whole lifetime to run, and a few days off to recover will not matter in the long run. Feel better!

  • The other thing I do if I don't (or can't) run with a cold is to do weight training since that requires less demanding breathing.

  • So long as I'm not aching/feverish, I'll always try to run with a cold. Usually makes me feel way better than sitting around, and without getting too gross, helps get the goo moving out:P Other than that, same deal as always, listen to your body - just maybe a little more carefully than you usually would!

  • Another vote for rest. If you're even slightly wheezy or have a cough, I wouldn't risk it. Lay low, let it pass and then get back into it after a few days. I had a minor respiratory infection in April and after reading comments in the Runner's World forum and on here decided to give it a go and ran 2-3 times. I wound up extremely ill, spent some time in the hospital and couldn't run for close to 3 weeks afterward.

  • Rest or at least take things at a slower pace. Depends on the symptoms. But in any case, never fail to take care of yourself.
