Any suggestions on a nutrition plan for a runner who is still trying to lose weight, yet staying fueled and energized?

  • Sara, I don't have a specific plan per se, but trust me when I say you'll actually want to be eating more to lose weight. You should be eating wholesome foods, making sure to include lots of vegetables, some fruit, and whole grains (including legumes and beans). A really great inspiration for healthy eating with a focus on using natural foods (as opposed to processed) is Clean Eating. The magainzes include recipes and shopping lists for 2 weeks worth of meals and snacks I've been following their plans loosely over the past 6 months and the food is fantastic.

  • Actually just came across a kind of weight loss plan with a similar philosophy to clean eating, over at Eating Well magazine.

  • I have a specific plan, somewhat..... My doctor recommended this to me after I had worked and worked for 1.5 years and wasn't losing weight----but actually slowly gaining! Long story short, ends up I have had an underactive thyroid and in the past few months I have gone from 182 to 144lbs. All cos of a little gland....

She put me on this diet plan that I find very easy to stick with...
Breakfast--Eat like a king (plenty of protein, colorful foods, limit carbs (if use carbs select whole grain)
Lunch-Eat like a queen (same as breakfast but less)
Dinner---no carbs but plenty of greens!

Two- three sensible snacks (protein or fruit)

    NO CARBS after lunch!

Now that I am running more... I admit, I probably have THE KING size meal at lunch, and the Queen at breakfast.... and I do fuel myself with a small portion of protein (like a protein SNACK bar or some nuts or cheese stick??/)

Hope this is something you can work with:-)
