Bike front fork making a noise, possibly front wheel..

posted almost 2 years ago | Report

I noticed it yesterday, and some cracking/straining/sometimes-squeeking sounds are coming from the front fork, even on flat roads, and when I'm not pedalling. Leaning forward and putting extra weight on the front fork stops the noise, but I'm a little worried I might be cycling along a road at 20mph and the front wheel falls off or something..

Anyone got any idea what could be causing it? I plan to go to the bike shop to get it checked out soon, but until then, it'd be great if somebody has suggestions.

  • Ummmm........"front bracket"?!??!? Do you mean front; hub, brake or maybe headset? The only "bracket" on a bike is the bottom bracket, that is where the bearings are housed for the crackset!

Go to a good local bike shop and have it looked at, a good mechanic will solve the problem after a short test ride!

  • Front Fork. Anyway, I took it down for a service and they said the part holding the frame to the fork was a little loose which "might have done it"..
