Good App for Cycling?

posted 10 months ago | Report

I am looking for a good app for my cell that will let me plan a route and give my voice turn by turn directions. I tried using my regular driving navigation but it is too limited and not for cycling.

Any help here is greatly appreciated.

  • I've been looking for one...what phone do you have? I'm using an Android phone, I've found I can track anything, but turn by turn directions are nearly impossible for me to find...I've seen just enough interest lately though...makes me think think think there may be a need for a good one!

  • mmmm You could use runkeeper.... you can plan a route and see it while you're riding, but the application doesn't give you voice directions.

Another app for cycling is cyclemeter... you can see the route too, and race against yourself... but the same, you can only see the map while you're riding.

    Hope that helps!

By the way I have an iPhone

  • Runmeter also has a cyclemeter app. Similiar just different with the training programs available.

I use runmeter is great!! I've been through the other running apps on iPhone and well this by far the best. Everything is in phone.

  • for cycling there are many apps for iPhone. I may be wrong but I dont think there is one that will give you turn by turn directions like Tom Tom. That being said, cyclemeter is one of the best out there. I does have a map that you can use to track where you are at. You can also use a existing route and follow it on the map.

  • Add my vote to Cyclemeter... it works quite well... gives you a nice "dashboard" and maps your progress. It can also provide real-time updates on your progress to both facebook and dailymile for those who care.

  • You don't want tracking, but an app that tells you where to go? If you are using Android, check out the Navigation portion of the Android Google Maps app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.maps&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5nb29nbGUuYW5kcm9pZC5hcHBzLm1hcHMiXQ..) I have never used it outside of driving a car, but I would figure it might work on areas that have the Google bicycle routes loaded.

  • I have an iPhone and use Runtastic Mountainbike Pro. It's not just for mountain biking, it also covers regular road cycling. It's a little off with elevation, but living in Florida, that doesn't coming into play a lot for me.

  • I use Cyclemeter, with the Wahoo sensors and extended battery. I usually plan a route either on dailymile, or RidewithGPS, then import the "official" route to use as an overlay map to follow. I rarely watch the screen so I just turn it off and let it announce my splits and targets using the text to voice features. If I get off route, I just check my location relative to the overlay map.

    The whole system works great!
