Logging bicycle trainer miles?

asked 4 months ago | Report

I just use the site to track stuff for my own information, but I'm curious how other people track their trainer mileage in here. e.g. do miles on the trainer 'count'?

Obviously it's just not the same sort of thing as actual cycling, and it's easier to maintain speeds that wouldn't be possible on actual terrain with body weight entering the equation, so the mileage seems skewed to me. Thoughts?

  • Log whatever you want - it's effort you put in. Most people indicate whether it's trainer riding or not (I've found), so those who read that so-and-so did 150 mpw know whats up.

For me a lot of times it is more about time. 60 minutes on the trainer may be more miles than 60 minutes on the road, but 60 minutes at continuous effort on a trainer > 60 minutes on the road when you can coast.

  • I've been doing hard intervals on the trainer. You bet those miles count, legs hurt the same whether they're on a trainer or on the road.
