I plan to do a 60-mile ride in June. What's the best way to start training?

I live in Wis. so I can't ride outside. I do 3 spinning classes a week already. What about strength training?

  • Do you have a trainer? You can bike in your home/apt...I trained for a 65 mile bike ride in 5 weeks using Coach Troy's cycling DVDs - there are incredible - there are speed, short, and long workouts (90, 120, 180, and 300 min DVDs)!!

  • I dont know when the weather starts getting warmer in Wisconsin, but I think you'd have plenty of time. Last year I did something similar, starting in late March with a 15 mile ride, and upped the mileage by 5-10 miles every weekend. You have the benefit of spinning classes - so that is a huge advantage. You may not be able to keep up the intensity of a spinning class through all 60 miles, but if you slow down a bit from that pace, your endurance should be drastically longer.
