Can I go cycling in my running shoes?

asked 5 months ago | Report

Looking for new cross-training ideas I went to my basement and digged up my old bike. I was just preparing to go out, but I realised I don't have any shoes beside my running shoes. Is it all right to bike in them?

  • Hi Julia,

If your bike has the flat pedals then yes! Pedal away! :)

  • I do it all the time. I live in the boonies in eastern Indonesia and can't get cycling shoes here. I'm going to the States in a couple of weeks though for a few months and one of the things on the top of my shopping list is cycling shoes. I use old running shoes to cycle.

  • I was using my running shoes with my platform pedals with no issues. Just got cycling shoes for Christmas!

  • I ride wearing sandals, running shoes, trekking shoes..

daily office commute is 10 kms one way.

PS: Since its an old bike, maybe a lil lube on the chain and derailleurs might be a good idea. Also check the tire condition.
