How are your brake pads set on your road bikes?

asked 6 months ago | Report

Evenin' all,
I've been given a second hand road bike - my first ever! Just curious how you have your brake pads set. Apart from disc brakes on MTB's, I've had U and V brakes on BMX/Jump Bikes and used to 'toe' my pads i.e. Set at a slight angle. This helped reduce squeaking and improved brake performance; however they would obviously wear down unevenly. Is it worth doing the same on a road bike or is it better to leave them flush with the rims?
Cheers

  • I would leave flush to rim. More surface for stopping power.

  • I run a very slight toe on my road pads- way less than on my old v-brakes. I don't have a great reason for it other than I've always done it that way and it works great. Try 'em both ways if you want!
