asked 8 months ago | Report

80% road and 20% offroad on a mtb currently...
requirements:
* shd be able to walk around a little bit(without cleat protruding out of the shoe sole)...
* lots of stops on the road so preferably dual sided clip

should i go for spd-sl or spd shoes?

  • Double sided narrows it down to about 2 choices SPD or Speedplay.
Recessed clip for walking takes you to SPD, on a mountain bike shoe.

  • Crank Brothers eggbeaters or candy's will work also. They are recessed and double sided.

  • I got the mountain bike shoes and the SPD double sided. I can clip in while riding and clip out and walk around normally. Works for me.

  • From my first experience of SPD today, I have and love the following:
Shimano dual sided pedals - got these for quick rides to the shops etc so I can wear regular trainers.
Spiuk MTB SPD shoes. Couldn't afford the Shimano so found some good reviews on these. Very comfy and fit well. Recessed cleats forveasy walking.

Whatever you get I would certainly recommend youbtry shoesvon rather than buying over Internet. From what I have seen, SPD shoes tend to be a size to small. I am a 43 for example but had to buy 44 otherwise would have been too tight. Take your usual socks as well :)

Enjoy - my best cycling decision of 2011 so far
