Insanity/P90X . . . and running?

Just wondering if anyone had thoughts on insanity vs. P90X.

Also, is it possible to do one of those programs AND some base level miles, or is it too much? Can anyone recommend a schedule?

My goal is to lose 5 pounds/firm up a bit (and NOT gain any weight over the holidays) while maintaining the fitness to do a spring half marathon.

  • Holly, Insanity is insane and I wouldnt try to add anything to that because if you do it right you will be spent. P90X its reasonable def you throw some miles on that. I hope that helps.

  • I think they are both over marketed. But they are also good workouts. Cross fit is free and more likely a better combo with running. You could even check out Cross Fit Endurance.

  • I did insanity and trained for a full and had no problems. I was not in great shape or athletic at the time just determined. You can do it and Insanity is the best cross training for running there is because of the plyometrics. www.sftrail.blogspot.com

  • Holly - I haven't tried insanity, but P90X is a little time-consuming when you're also trying to run any distance base. Most workouts are upwards of an hour and a half. Great workouts, I just found it pretty hard to fit them in with running and life :) I agree with Kyle - Crossfit is pretty awesome.
