  • I just cheat and bought a heart monitor. It has helped me keep up with my calories and I just love it! I bought mine at Dick's Sporting goods for $49 on sale.

  • Yes, Exercise play a wonderful to make a slim body by burning the extra calories. But you need to take care of your daily diet also for reducing the calories. Exercise is a part of weight loss program. So if you really want to reduce your weight or burn your calories then concentrate on all part of weight loss program like exercise, walking, daily diet, drinking water, avoid junk food etc....

  • You can do a rough estimate and myplate has a lot of estimates on exercise, use a device, or have fun with math and taking your own pulse. I personally have a Polar F6 w/ HRM and a Garmin 405 w/ HRM and my calories are calculated for me.

Would not be difficult to create a spreadsheet since you know all the variables below and can take your pulse multiple times to find the average (sounds like a lot of work to me):

For males, estimate the calories that you burned during your exercise session. This is given by the equation C = (0.6309 x H + 0.09036 x W + 0.2017 x A -- 55.0969) x T / 4.184. C is the number of calories that you burned, H is your average heart rate, W is your weight, A is your age and T is the length of your exercise session in minutes.

    For females, derive the calories that you burned. This is given by the equation C = (0.4472 x H -- 0.05741 x W + 0.074 x A -- 20.4022) x T / 4.184. Assume that you're a 28-year-old female weighing 146 pounds. Your average heart rate during an exercise session that lasted 36 minutes was 138 bpm. You burned C = (0.4472 x 138 -- 0.05741 x 146 + 0.074 x 28 -- 20.4022) x 36 / 4.184 = 301 calories.

Easy to use, but still comprehensive enough that you can find most stuff in there.

    Good luck! :)
