I love the 70.3 distance, is your goal completing? or do you have a set time you want, 6hrs? 5hrs? What field is your strongest? your weakest? hah, instead of tips i guess i'm just bombarding you with questions. Some things I wish I did more at my first,
1. I sweat a lot, if its a hot race you need to pay attention to not only calories and water, but salt as well, your entire body will cramp up and it really sucks! Luckily your body absorbs it quickly if you pop some salt tabs or gatorade. Some IM's have cold chicken broth at the mile markers, it really works great
2. I've never raced Augusta but find out if its wetsuit or speedsuit. If its a speedsuit you'll need to clean up your swimming technique a little. Less than i think its 78 degrees you can wear a wetsuit but it disqualifies you from the 70.3 championship spots. If this isn't your goal, and you should probably just be having fun at your first one anyways, wear the wetsuit.
3. Ride the end of your bike at a high cadence (95-100), it gets your legs better prepared for the hellish half marathon ahead.
4. drink drink drink on the bike. you need to be very hydrated when you start the run
5. Nothing new, not the time to try out a new gel brand, a new sneaker or new socks.
6. Ah practice sighting in the water, even in a pool close your eyes and pop your head up to see where you are going
7. if you're going to leave your shoes clipped in to your bike, throw some rubber bands around your shoes. If your cycling shoes are just dangling as you are running through transition, they can pop your chain off (its happened to me!)
8.Eat lots during. Practice this on your long rides and runs. see how your stomach handles it.
Ah Im sure Im forgetting tons of stuff, Have fun!!! These are so addicting!
Cheers!

Ill be there and it will be my first as well. Im going to send you a friend request so we can keep each other motivated and share training styles. About the DQ. I know if you use a wetsuit over 78 its participatory but over I think 80 is DQ due to heat related risk. I dont think its ever been a problem to wear a wetsuit at Augusta since its always under 78 consistently. I sure hope we can use one though I wont even train with one prior to it :)

Augusta's water temp is usually around the low 70's for this Tri. I like just outside of augusta and swam the course yesterday in my wetsuit and the water felt great. This to will be my first time running this race. Good luck to you.

Augusta is a great race. I've raced it several times. If this is your first 70.3, your goal should be to finish and feel good. Dont worry about time. The swim will be wetsuit legal and fast, since its down river. The bike has a few little hills, nothing major. The run is flat. It can be hot, which can be a cramping factor ( I know this as I have had to walk nearly the entire run) so hydrate and electrolytes early on the bike. Happy training!
