Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon?

posted almost 2 years ago | Report

Has anyone run the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon? I'm thinking about running it this year and wanted to know how it was.

hills?
support?
crowds?

Thanks!

Check that Marathonguide.com page for lots of info. Also there is an elevation guide both there and on the race website.

  • That website was really helpful...thanks! I saw the elevation guide on their website, and it looked hilly...but I'm from Wisconsin and don't remember the lakefront being that hilly.

  • I don't recall the Lakefront area being that hilly, either. Granted I haven't run the race, but I'd imagine it'd be a good one to do. Now that you mention it, I might have to consider giving it a whirl this fall :)

  • I have run it twice, not recently though. I liked it. I had my fastest marathon time on that course which is a point to point race. It is well run, small, lots of places for your friends to see you along the course. It is not very hilly, and has a beautiful finish on the Milwaukee lake front. So, if you are looking for a low key, smaller fall marathon, the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon is a good pick. If you want something bigger, very well run, also on a beautiful course, and sometimes run on the same weekend as the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon you could try the Twin Cities Marathon (TCM). I have run that one about 5 times.

  • I ran Lakefront last year and I don't remember it being hilly at all. There were a few slight inclines here and there as we ran through farmland but nothing I'd gasp at as I approached it. The support was amazing, from the email updates to the every other mile water/Gatorade stands. There were not crowds lining the whole course but there were groups of people gathered at various landmarks, families standing outside their homes with signs on the course, family and friends scattered at very random turns on the course, and then of course when you get to the finish it's unreal the amount of cheers there are! One thing I really enjoyed was the pace groups. It allowed me to run with a crowd, that took my mind off the tough miles. I even finished a few minutes faster than my goal time. I think you'll like it!
