Trail Running

posted 11 months ago | Report

I just ran my first trail race and have really enjoyed trail running but want to get into more competitive trail races and be able to compete at that level.

Are there any suggestions on how to improve my training for trail races and improving my athleticism?

  • The general advice to improve on any kind type of racing it to practice what yo expect on race days, so lots of training on trails, hill repeats are always a good work out, no more than once a week, find a hill that will take you about 90 sec to run up,warm up thoroughly, than run up the hill hard, when you get to the top jog back down to the start, then run up hard again. Do this 6 times on the fist week build up over a period of several weeks so you can do 10-12 repeats.

  • Yep just keep training on the trails. In addition to Brians advice to train running up hills, dont forget to also train running down them.

Fartleks, or even time bassed intervals are also a good way to incorporate a speed workout on the trails.
