Gear for ultra running

posted 11 months ago | Report

Looking to upgrade my hydration pack for longer runs. Anyone have any suggestions?

Zombie Runner has been in the ultra game for a long time, they test and sell what works. Keep in mind, training can be more difficult than actually racing, in a race most ultras have aid stations every 7-10 miles. While training you may have to carry everything you need for the entire distance of your training run, unless you have a central parking location that can be looped back to.

  • Thanks, Dan! I was looking at some of the one we use for work and they were significantly heavier than the ones I saw by UltrAspire. So I figured there must be other lighter brands as well. I haven't found a looped trail yet, so I'm definitely going to have to carry some stuff for training.

I am an unabashed fan of Nathan products. They usually have a ton of pockets, for Fig Newtons, boiled potatoes, gels (yuck), bars and bites.

I think I'm going to give the Nathan's a try. My current brand is sturdy but heavy.

  • I have tried Nathan and I have not been impressed with their handhelds. It is not very ergonomical and i hate te elastic that holds the bottles in. On the other hand I have alot of Amphipod gear had have been very pleased with their engineering. You will not be dissapointed with Amphipods gear! I really like carrying the Hydraform Handheld 20oz in both hands and their hydration belts are very customizable. unlike nathan you can put as many bottles of whatever size you want and can have a variety of pouches added on too.

Thanks, Peter! I'll check them out too.

I love this piece of gear, a 5 star product and for a very good price.
