Any fellow Californians training for a half?

posted 4 months ago | Report

Just wanted to see if there are any Californians planning to do a half this year. I'm going to do my first in the later part of the year, I haven't decided on a location yet. I took some time off running and I'm focusing on building my base for a few months. Also, does anyone know of a great half in California for first timers?

  • Hey there. I'm not sure where in CA you were trying to find your first half. But I did the san jose half this past year and thought it was great. There were tons and tons of runners, volunteers, and spectators. The course is very flat. And the bands keep you entertained as you run. :)

I'm a relatively new endurance runner, so far I have found it easiest to improve by keeping my HR easy and relaxed while running nearly daily. You get faster and faster while still obtaining a low HR and feeling refreshed after each run.

I am running my first half next weekend!! I am running in the Huntington Beach Surf City Marathon. It is always on Super Bowl Sunday. The course is pretty flat, which is good for a newbie, like me!! I know that Long Beach has a race in October that is fairly flat too. I will be doing that one and depending on how I recover from this run, I may sign up for the full marathon...sign ups are going on right now at cheaper rates if that matters at all. Disneyland has a half marathon in Sept. too....that one sells out quick if you are interested in that one. Good luck to you!!!
