Awesome Playlist Wanted

asked almost 2 years ago | Report

I thinking about wearing my ipod when I need some extra motivation during my marathon this Sunday. Which songs would you suggest?

I am considering some quic tempo songs and even rancheras.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  • The Distance by Cake.

We Built This City by Starship. This one is probably not for everyone, but it always puts a smile on my face and takes my mind off the pain.

  • I'm kinda new to all this (started running in October and my first ever race is the Liverpool half marathon next Sun), but I always run with my mp3 on and I've noticed a few things.

Tempo of the song doesn't make any difference to my pace, faster makes me feel like I'm working harder and slower makes me feel more relaxed. Bit weird, but there you go.

Songs I know the words to make me quicker, and sometimes make me sing out loud like some kind of lunatic. Think Eddie Murphy in 48 hours only running.

The main thing is I get bored of playlists really quickly and knowing what song I should be up to when I hit a specific distance/marker really stops me being able to relax and enjoy the run, so I have about 700 songs playing on random so every track is a surprise and gives it's own little bit of motivation. Not knowing whether I'll get RATM, The Beatles, Regina Spektor, Bowling for Soup, Ash, Foreigner, Motley Crue or Pearl Jam next is much more fun!

  • Tracey, I like Dave Matthews for running. Even the somewhat slower songs are good because of all of the rhythmic guitar playing. Hope that helps. I also listen to all of the upbeat Pearl Jam stuff. Good combination.

  • If you want some good rock/electronica that doesn't sound repetitive, check out Family Force 5. Almost all their songs are suited for runners, especially on their first album (Business Up Front).
