I can't say for sure as I rarely have issues, but two things to look at.
1. Do you know your heart rate? That would be a good way to tell if you're running too hard.
2. Isntherena pattern in what your eating for dinner when you have issues? The one thing I've learned to avoid in a Pre-run meal is dairy. Might be something totally different for you, but sometime our bodies prefer certain foods over others before a hard workout.answered 10 months ago |Report

When I first started running 3 years ago every 5k & 10k race I throw up on Mile 3. It never fails. I believe the reason it happens is because my core is very weak. Now it happens once in a while but now if I throw up before getting to the finish line I know I had a good race:)
There could be alot of reasons why you lose your dinner during hard workouts but I would work on core training it might help.

I don't throw up during training but I have finished two races now, one was a mudd run and the other was a normal 5K...about 15 min. after the mudd run I got sick and after my 5K I went to find privacy to get sick and my boyfriend talked to me and make me focus on my breathing and the feeling went away.....are you drinking or eating anything sweet? Gatoraide makes me sick sometimes.

If you're eating something with a lot of fiber, it can upset your stomach. Same goes for fatty foods. Too many fats, even the good kind, close to a run can make me vomit (which is a shame because I live on almonds).
Dairy is another bad one. I can eat a huge bowl of a cereal with soy, almond, or rice milk before a run and be fine, but if I eat a tiny bowl with milk, bye bye cereal. Many foods that are heavy in gluten also give me issues on a run, but I've long suspected that I have sensitivity to it so that may not help you.
There were two girls on my team in high school that threw up during most workouts and meets, and sometimes even before the race. One had endometriosis, and the other turned out to be on the severe end of lactose intolerant.
