Le Tour - Picks and Predictions

posted over 3 years ago | Report

I'm a little out of the loop this year, but interested to hear what everyone's picks and predictions are for this years Tour De France.

  • I can't watch the Tour until they clean it up. It's almost as bad as baseball now...

  • I am late on this one but I have been rooting for teh CSC boys. They are doing a great job. I didn't expect the Schleck brothers to do this good.

  • I wish Vandevelde would have done a bit better in stg 16, but what can you do, he crashed, but he did great yesterday. Hopefully he does well in the TT and can finish top 5 overall and top 20 in climbing points.

  • If you watched today's stage, Contador basically showed everybody he is at the top of his form. His acceleration on the mountain was just incredible.

The look on Lance's face at the end of the stage told his story. It was definitely a tough day in the saddle for him, so he's still working for a podium showing. Kloden did beat Lance to the finish today, so he is looking good too.

Cadel Evans totally flamed out, so I don't think he's even in it anymore, but the Schleck brothers are going to make this really interesting in the mountains. It's also good to see Bradley Wiggens and Christian Vande Velde in there and hoping they can work with each other to keep another American team in contention.

And wishing Levi was in there mixing up as well since he had a shot at the podium ... what a heartbreak for him. Sounds like his season is done as he won't be racing the Vuelta either now.

  • I agree that Contador just showed a few of the cards that the Astana has up their sleeve. Lance played the dutiful teammate by not showing chase the last few K's and by doing so avoided helping any others chase Contador. Kloden also played the dutiful lieutenant by keeping Lance in contention. Lance, having been 3+years off, is doing remarkably well and is showing that he's still able to compete at the highest level...This is just the first day in the Alps but...Contador threw down the gauntlet today for sure. I agree that it's a shame about Levi too--he would have had fun today as well. Also great to see Bradley Wiggens and Christian Vande Velde today...poor George Hincapie...looked so good yesterday.
