What do you think of Computrainer?

asked almost 3 years ago | Report

I'm thinking about buying a computrainer and I wondered if anyone had ever used one or know if they are worth the money? The tax return was good to us!

  • I do not know about owning one personally but every week I go to a spin class that is on Computrainers. I think it is probably my best and most solid one hour on the bike each week.

  • I think that ANYTHING that can make a trainer ride less boring and, therefore, keep you at it more often / longer, is a good thing!

  • Oh, yeah, I forgot to ask: what's a "tax return"?

  • Darrel W. I think you needed to start with "what is tax" and after you get that concept then move to "what is a tax return" :-)

I know what tax is and what a tax return is, what I don't know about is a "tax rebate", I believe it is a mythical cheque sent to you by the government - well that is what I heard anyway.

  • My race club bought one a few months ago. That was the first opportunity I’ve ever had to check my power output, so I liked that. It also analyzes your stroke to let know where you are pushing too hard or not enough so you can work on smoothing it out. I think it is a helpful way to check my fitness and see how I’m progressing. The computerized training courses are OK, but I find spinning on the trainer in front of the TV, or spinning classes at my gym more entertaining.
I really like having access to a computraier, but if I actually had one in my house I doubt that I’d use it more that once every month or two to check my progress. I don’t know exactly how much they cost, but I’m sure they aren’t cheap, and if I had an extra couple Gs kicking around in my cycling budget, I’d probably upgrade my aging 105 gruppo and get a few more kits so I don’t have to do laundry every day, or maybe get a cross bike for winter training rather than invest in a computrainer of my own.
